School Closed > Virtual Days.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, school will be closed until at least May 15th. This closure affects all programming, including before- and after-school activities, all athletic and extracurricular practices, and competitions, and weekend events. Statewide Stay Home Order.  This declaration will not impact the critical services that our schools are now providing, such as our breakfast and lunch pick-up and delivery. You can read more about the order HERE.

CDC Recommendations. Please view the current recommendations and steps to take to protect yourself and others at the CDC website HERE. 

 BCS Nutrition. Buncombe County Schools will host drive-through food pick-up stations (breakfast and lunch) in all of our districts. This will include Black Mountain Primary and Owen High School. In addition to the school meal sites, Buncombe County schools are delivering meals to high population areas of our community for children 2-18 years of age. Call 828-255-5932 to let us know about the needs in your area. (Please note, you must be in an area eligible for this service.)

  • Families with children ages 2-18 are welcome!
  • Starting on Monday 3/30, pick-up will be in the back of the Primary School on Charlotte St.
• YMCA Meals. The YMCA continues to host regular no-cost mobile produce markets, using pre-packed bags to prevent any additional exposure/contact. Additionally, weekend meals will be served on Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Ferguson YMCA (31 Westridge Market Place, Candler, NC 28715).
• Bounty & Soul (Black Mountain). Bounty & Soul will be hosting drive-thru pick up sites for participants to collect pre-made healthy food boxes. Sites are open on Tuesdays at the St. James Episcopal Church (424 W State St, Black Mountain, NC 28711) parking lot from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Fridays at Black Mountain Presbyterian Church (117 Montreat Rd, Black Mountain, NC 28711) parking lot from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Guests are asked not to arrive earlier than the scheduled times.
• Local Restaurants.  A list of local restaurants offering free meals for school-aged children is being maintained by Family Friendly Asheville.
